We arrived in the surfing town of Noosa Heads on Wednesday and decided to stay a long weekend there before heading north to Fraser Island on Sunday. On Friday we spent the day in the mechanics shop (again) after our air-con broke down. On the way there the passenger window fell into the door and refused to work. We were lucky to find a mechanic willing to fix this all on a Friday and that’s when our relationship with our car started to fade. The mechanics found a large piece of wood in the passenger door used as a window stopper (this explained the mysterious clonk-clonk sounds that appeared while turning the car!) It seems the previous owner had installed a “home-made” window stopper! We got the car fixed and we’re very relieved that all was a-okay. Saturday was Henkka’s birthday and we spent the morning shopping for camping gear for our upcoming tenting experience in Fraser the following day. Then we took a hike on the Tanglewood Track in Noosa National Park, which came to a place called Hell's Gate (gloomy name), which are cliffs that apparently can be quite dangerous due to high winds etc. A magnificant view though across the Pacific Ocean...
Funny critter’s in the national park…
Henkka in the depths of Noosa park…with his cool new hat…
Overlooking Paradise beach…
Me at the cliffs…
The cliffs called Hell's Gate…
In the evening we had some excellent Japanese in Noosaville cooked by the Japanese Ambassador’s ex-Chef to Canberra. Yummy stuff!!! Oh, and there was another report of the famous eye-poking method again working! A guy in the news poked a crocodile in the eye after being attacked and escaped! This seems to be the best way to get out of any animal attacks here!
Henkka and I at the Japanese...
...and again...
On Sunday we took the ferry to get to Fraser. After two kilometers the car engine overheated and started smoking like there was no tomorrow. A backyard handy-guy fixed a hose that seemed to have a hole in it.
Henkka cools off our car after the smoke stops…
We decided to carry on, driving on the beach the 75 km to Fraser. The beach was great but with shark infested waters (hence, very empty!)
We got about 10km from our destination until in the 4WD trails in the bush we overheated again…so bad that this time we decided to turn around and get a mechanic look at it back from where we started from (as there was no cell coverage, no people, nothing where we were, we thought we’d better be safe than sorry)…well good thing we did ‘couse when we got to shore the gearbox jammed. We cursed our luck…and the car. So much for a reliable more expensive car! We were not happy campers, and still aren’t.
Stuck in the bushtrails…
At the moment we have been stuck since Sunday night in a small place called Coolum beach next to the repair shop. Turns out our radiator, fan AND the 4WD gearbox is broken! There’s nothing to do around here, no Internet café, no clubs, pubs and the weather kinda sucks…Today we hope to find out when we’re getting the car back, plan what to do the next 5 days when we’re stuck here etc. You could say this is major setback as the insurance company are giving us headaches and we’re most likely to pay everything ourselves! Nice! So no Fraser for our part…we don’t even want to see the wretched island anymore. Oh, and there’s a cyclone flooding up much of north Queensland so we’re probably missing our window of opportunity to head anytime soon up there as the streets are going to be flooded away for some time. Definitely NOT happy campers!!! Hopefully in the next blog I’ll have better news (ie. We’ve escaped this place!) and we are licking our wounds on the white sandy beaches of Whitsunday…hope everybody’s having fun in the -25˚C back home ;)

Hey you guys. It's Jason. Jason from Survivor. Yes him.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics. All of them. Like reading the short anecdotes too - you're good Linda. Kind of sucks with the car. But you knew it wouldn't be totally misfortune-free. Besides, internet cafés or not, I'm sure you two can think of 'something' to do while you're stuck in that town. Or anywhere.
Don't know about Turku (previous post's comments), but it sure is hella cold in Helsinki. The snow is clean and powdery, so I guess it's alright. But I think you guys have it better.
Keep on posting. I love the pace of your posts - so many bloggers update way too unfreqently.
Happy birthday to Henkka. Much love to both.
Jason

I'm sorry but from here I just have to laugh a little ! Hahahahah .... But no seriously that is some majorly bad luck about the car hope the repairs won't wipe out all your funds. Have you thought about some sort of a wilderness survival course ? It might come in handy if you do get stuck in the bush with that car ... Although whatever comes your way just poke it in the eye and you should, by all accounts, be just fine. I've started going to physicotherapy getting ultrasound and shocktreatment for the knee and a vicious woman keeps bending it until I cry. You know the usual stuff there's finally a proper winter over here. But anyways good luck and be careful out there !
ReplyDeleteHi Henrik and Linda
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to read about your journey. It is good to understand that Devil exists. He has some purposes and goals in his operations. Those are destroy, steel and kill.
Even more important it is to undertsand and believe that Jesus has all the power and authority over anything. God has allowed this to happened to your car.
Bible says that, who is going forward for an danger , will find it.
The mercy in Lord in Jesus is available, So please pray and ask mercy for you. That`s why Holy Father sent His only son to die in cross and suffer. Because of the love of God. And becouse we all are sinners and need mercy.
The main message in the Gospel is: Repent , kingdom of God has come close of you.
So please turn to living, loving and most powerful God. God is one. So Jesus will help ou out of your problems.
In Holy Scriptures , it is written that: obey God and resist satan and it will escape from you.
God bless you both in Jesus name, Jesus is the Lord.
with love, vesa
Yep, I am finally online. Keep those pics and words coming. Hopefully you either have dumped your car for a new one or somebody has fixed that rusty old bucket so that you can get to your next destination.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Somebody got a really nice postcard today. It was from "the land down under". Thank You!
ReplyDeleteGot to love the picture on the card (taken of Austria from Apollo 17). It looks so unreal; almost fake. Can't wait for space-travel to cost a bit less than it does today.
In my previous post I commended you on something. I'd like to add that despite the relatively long time since your last post, that compliment still stands. I read from your postcard that you are STILL waiting for your car to be fixed.
But I have to say that even the idea of being stuck somewhere - nowhere - with a broken car sounds wonderful! I'd love to be in your shoes (not high-heel) now. Take in everything! Embrace everthing! Even the so-called "set-backs".
What's new here? Nothing much. I just ordered 30 bottles of Törley sparkling wine for Cathy & Simon's summer wedding; I'm trying to find discipline to work on my thesis; My dad had his face on the giant screen at LänsiAuto Areena at a Blues game on his 49th birthday; Jussi & Hanna had their baby (see lounge.ruokomaki.fi); My parents are getting a 4th child, a 14-year-old pretty girl named Julia (their 1st Julia want's to be called "Julle" henceforth).
Much love.
Jason

P.S. I must add that I humbly disagree with all, or even most, "set-backs" having a diabolic origin. Be blessed!
The attentive reader will notice that I forgot (a) my name from my last post (written by "anonymous") and (b) the letters 'a' and 'l' from the word 'Austria'.
ReplyDeleteThat is all.
Hey to both of you! It is really nice to be able to share your adventures with you! The pictures are great!
ReplyDeleteAll is fine, here in the cold north. Not jealous at all....about the nice weather you're having....no, not at all.
Enjoy to the fullest and know that you are being carried in prayer!! Can't wait till the next update.
May God Bless,
Mami

Mami, great to hear from you, and of course everyone else as well!! Thank you for remembering us in prayer!

Lots and lots of congratulations to Jussi and Hanna!
Sirkku and Danny, totally awesome to hear from you guys! I guess being on a country like the one your on now can be an adventure everyday... atleast its not boring to say the least;) Some people should seriously develop their energy in something other then throwing rocks at moving objects...
